Michael Good, DVM
Michael Paul Good, our beloved founder, passed away from a heart attack on May 29th, 2021.
For over 40 years, Michael Good was a fearless advocate for animal rescue – using numerous resources and large volumes of his time to promote, pursue, and create the change needed to save thousands of animals’ lives that would otherwise be euthanized.
Dr. Good grew up in Mishawaka, Indiana, where he was one of six children. He owned many animals, including three animals, early in his life. As a sophomore in high school, Dr. Good decided to turn his passion of animals into a career and become a veterinarian. He never looked back.
Dr. Good attended Purdue University from ’72 – ’74 and was accepted into the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine as a “Two-Year Wonder”. Dr. Good graduated in 1978 and founded Town & Country Veterinary Clinic one year later.
Michael Good founded the Homeless Pets Foundation in 1998 to provide a solution to the endless homeless pets population by educating our next generation, providing communities and businesses a means to get involved and tell their stories.
He later founded the Underhound Railroad, which rescued over 20,000 dogs from kill shelters in the South and sent them for adoption in the Northeast and Canada.
He also frequently hosted low-cost vaccination clinics for pets and served as the on-call veterinarian for The Atlanta Braves’ Bark in the Park, a day when dogs are welcome at a ball game.
Dr. Good was known to charge little to nothing for services when a pet owner couldn’t afford certain care. If he knew they wanted to truly care for their animals, he made sure that could happen.
As a much-loved expert in his field, he made regular appearances on radio station New Country 101.5 to promote pet adoptions.
